Make Your Cluster Fly: Embed a Multi-Node Kubernetes Cluster Inside an Aircraft Using Puppet & Flux - Alexis Bonnin & Guillaume Maquinay, Thales Aerospace
Bootstrapping and operating an air-gapped Kubernetes cluster can be challenging, especially when it is located at 40,000 feet inside an aircraft. The first challenge is assembling the Kubernetes cluster located inside the avionic bay. We tackled this by autonomously bootstrapping the cluster, extending the GitOps paradigm all the way to the operating system using Puppet. The second challenge is related to container deployment. How do you guarantee that all your containers are cached onboard before starting deployment? This talk will present a custom Kubernetes Operator whose goal is to make sure all containers are cached before letting Flux install the workloads. When it comes to edge computing, hardware comes into play. During this talk, we will bring our avionic-certified Onboard Data Center (ODC) where Kubernetes is running. Ready to transcend the boundaries of conventional cloud? Join us on a journey where technology reaches new heights, quite literally!
