Why should one surrender to God? Why is Surrender Key to receiving grace of God? Maharishi Patanjali has highly emphasized the concept of surrender. Our mind is controlled only by profound meditation upon God and total surrender to God. Many times seekers / yogis choose to ignore this concept (and this verse) but this is very important. The same verse has come in three different forms in the 196 sutras in Patajali Yog Sutra. Three times Maharishi Patanjali is emphasizing the importance of surrender to God. Why? The mind that we need to control is made of material energy, Maya. Maya is energy of God. No one can defeat Maya without God's grace. Hence, no one can conquer the mind without grace of God. In Bhagavad Gita, Shree Krishna said, Arjun you can't cross over Maya yourself. Arjun then asked how will I reach my goal? Shree Krishna, in his response, emphasized the supreme importance of surrender. In this video lecture, Swamiji graciously explains the concept of surrender and justice. Swamiji brings out the essence of concept with practical, real-life (and funny) examples. Merely by one's own effort, our endeavor to conquer Maya and our mind (which is made of material energy) will inevitably fail. The strength of will power is not enough against the power of Maya. BUT WHEN GOD GRACES, the impossible becomes possible: by the strength of his grace!

Maharaji ji has written a pad on the importance of surrender: Daya chaha nahi nvaya, shyam mohi!

Translation: One should ask God for Daya (Grace) and not nyaya (justice). God never does injustice and hence no point asking for justice. This point is explained in the conversation between Dhritrastra and Shree Krishna. Dhristra, at the end of the war, questioned Krishna: what bad did I do that my 100 sons died? Shree Krishna responded that you do not remember your infinite past lives and the karmas you did then.
