Claire Croiza (1882-1946) was a musically gifted child who after initial private instruction was accepted as a student by Jean de Reszke and made her first serious opera debut in1906 in Brussels, as Dalila in Samson and Delila. Her opera career was under way at that point and all pointed to a successful career in opera, but as she developed, she moved further and further in the direction of the concert stage, which was a favored venue for her, as she was musically refined, and her work was characterized by remarkable finesse and elegance.
