In Melbourne’s outer west, Tarneit has become a clear example of how fast population growth can put pressure on transport infrastructure. Daily commutes are often long and unpredictable, road congestion is a regular part of peak travel, and bus services remain limited for many neighbourhoods. The existing Tarneit Station is one of the busiest in the region, with close to two million passengers each year.
These conditions have fuelled ongoing calls for better rail access and additional capacity in Melbourne’s west. For a growing number of locals, the challenge is not just getting onto a train, but doing so without lengthy feeder trips, full car parks, or already-crowded services.
Scheduled to open in 2026, West Tarneit Station will introduce a new V-Line stop on the Regional Rail Link, aimed at serving expanding residential areas west of the existing station.
