The chorale "Liebster Jesu, wir sind hier" (Dearest Jesus, we are here) by Tobias Clausnitzer (1663) was intended as a prayer for illumination at the start of a service. Bach's setting (from the miscellaneous chorale preludes) delicately ornaments the melody in the soprano while the inner voices create a warm, meditative polyphony – often called one of his most touching and intimate organ works.
