Описание: The governments of Russia and Burkina Faso signed a memorandum of understanding on Friday, October 13, 2023, for the Russian National Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom to construct a nuclear power plant in Burkina Faso and to train the Burkinabe in nuclear professions. The Director General of Rosatom Nikolai Spassky and Burkinabe Minister of Energy, Mines, and Quarries Simon Pierre Boussim signed the MoU in Moscow. According to Mali Actu, construction on the plant should begin in 2024 and end in 2028 with the plant producing 1,000 megawatts of power to meet the nation’s energy needs for decades. The project was first discussed by Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Burkinabe counterpart President Ibrahim Traore on the sidelines of the Russia-Africa summit in St. Petersburg in July. According to Reuters, with a population of over 20 million people, semi-arid Burkina Faso presently has a power generation capacity of only 420 megawatts, accommodating only 20% of the population. According to AFP, the project intends to assist Burkina Faso in using nuclear energy in industry, agriculture, and medicine.
