Описание: This is an interdisciplinary service-research program. During the fall semester, students are introduced to features of Cambodian and Vietnamese culture and history, with their relevance to recent American history and America's involvement in the Indochinese conflicts. The trip portion of this program will take students to Bangkok, then to Cambodia, where students will work with local school students and teachers on service-research projects for 13 days, with extensive visits to the temples of Angkor Wat for an in-depth study of the unique art of the Khmer Empire. The group will then travel on to Vietnam for 9 days and learn about the importance of the US-Vietnam War, its historic roots, the influence it has had on shaping current foreign policy decisions, and today's relationship between Vietnam and the US. The Vietnam trip will take students from Ho Chi Minh city in the south to Hanoi in the north, with stops in Central Vietnam, visiting key cultural/historical sites in Vietnamese history and the major wartime sites of the Vietnamese-American conflict.
