I feel like, narratively speaking, (Guardian) Arkveld is absolutely the best flagship monster the series has ever had. The story of simply wanting to live, in defiance of its fate, in defiance of the world itself that it was born into, is something Monster Hunter has never seen before and might not ever see again.

People give Nata a lot of hate, but he was absolutely right about one thing: all Arkveld wanted was to live. Even as its sanity degenerated, even as the world around it conspired to stand in its way, it strove to surmount its own natural order at any and all costs. And even though, in a bittersweet way, it succeeded, giving birth to the true, honest-to-goodness Arkveld, in the end, I still wish Guardian Arkveld had been able to experience the world for just a little more.

It brings to mind that comic about the two-headed calf—and just like that baby, we will always remember the brief flicker of life that Guardian Arkveld called its own.
