Fresh communal tension erupted in Tripura’s Unakoti district as a mob targeted Muslim homes, shops, and vehicles in the Fatikroy area’s Saidarpara–Shimultala locality. The attackers allegedly carried out arson and large-scale vandalism, leaving several houses damaged and vehicles burnt. A timber shop and heaps of straw kept outside multiple homes were reduced to ashes, while clashes left several innocent residents injured.

According to reports, the violence was not spontaneous but a planned attack that began early Saturday morning. Police intervened after the situation escalated and have arrested at least 10 people in connection with the incident. The administration has deployed additional forces to prevent further escalation and maintain law and order.

The trigger for the violence is reportedly a dispute over Durga Puja donations. An argument broke out after a Muslim driver allegedly refused to pay the demanded amount, which soon snowballed into communal clashes, arson, and mob violence, once again raising serious questions about minority safety and policing in the state.
