So after a nearly 400 mile round trip, 7hrs on the road and single longest day trip I’ve ever done and my first ever visit to Milddenhall. Here she is the 60 year old one of a kind I believe now WC135W 61-2667 as JAKE21 returning from its 10 and half hour mission over the Baltic Sea. What a sight and sound, as always with what is essentially a 60 year old 707.The 707 being Boeing's first ever jetliner and first American jetliner to enter commercial service in 1958. They opened up the world to air travel along with the Douglas DC8. They became a stable of airlines across the world selling some 1,011 until production ended in 1978 with some of last going to the RAF as E3's which have just recently been retired and the Israeli air force. The 707 became an icon of the jet age paving the way forward for todays modern twin jets. The last commercial ones being operated by Iranian Sahara air until 2013. Their were 6 of these ones built , known as the “white tops” by veteran spotters, their purpose is to collect nuclear particles in the atmosphere above a given area this may look like a 707 but, in reality it’s a completely different even older design. It’s actually a 717 which was what the Boring called it before it was known as the 707. So it has a different fuselage and wing tanks to the 707. It’s basically a military variant 707 as it was for civilian use and this was created from this C135/717 military variant. It was re-designated the 707 and 717 was dropped and forgotten until the MD95 came along in the mid 90’s. Still awesome to see this after all this way well worth it. The smoke and defending sound of those PW TF33'S is something that the modern aircrfaft simply will never compare to. She’s slated for retirement soon so could very well be the last time she visit’s the UK so I'm extremely glad I saw this incredibly beast before she's gone.
There was a Russian Nuclear sub and Oscar II Class that broken down in Baltic and she was sent over there to fly over and monitor things. first time she has flown since arriving on Saturday morning.
I also caught one of Aviono F-16’s arriving and departing though I completely messed up the departure video 🤦♂️🤣. Two different KC135’s including the Tiger tail one and a few CV-22B’s.
anyway hope you enjoy, like, comment and subscribe for more aviation content coming soon.
