APS (Avtomaticheskiy Podvodnyy Spetsialnyy) — Designed by Vladimir Simonov in the Soviet Union, adopted in 1975. A unique underwater assault pistol firing 4.5×40mm steel darts. It was created for Soviet combat divers (frogmen) during the Cold War, effective underwater but less practical on land.
PSS (Pistolet Samozaryadnyj Spetsialnyj) — Designed by TsNIITochMash in the USSR, introduced in the early 1980s. A semi-automatic, integrally suppressed pistol using 7.62×42mm SP-4 captive piston cartridges, making it nearly silent. Developed for KGB and Spetsnaz units, it allowed discreet elimination of targets without a visible muzzle flash or loud sound.
