BJP MLA Mihir Kotecha revealed that he had previously 'red flagged' the specific contractor involved, alleging that 'no cognizance of his complaint was taken by the MMRDA' prior to the mishap. The MMRDA has halted construction at the site and imposed initial fines of ₹5 crore on the contractor and ₹1 crore on the supervision company. VMC Mayor Ritu Tawre admitted to negligence, noting that the road was not barricaded despite a parapet segment being placed recently. Kotecha further criticized the administration, stating he expressed shock to the MMRDA chief that 'till 3.15 not a single MMRDA representative was here' at the accident site. A third-party audit and a detailed inquiry into why previous warnings were ignored have been promised as rescue operations conclude and the injured receive medical treatment.
