U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Deputy Prime Minister, the head of the Ministry of National Defense Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz hold press conference before meeting Polish President Andrzej Duda.
The US could provide some form of “air cover” to a peacekeeping force in Ukraine in return for rare earth minerals, UK government sources believe, after European leaders vented their fury at President Trump for opening peace talks with President Putin.
They accused Trump of “appeasement” and of walking the US’s allies into a “deadly trap” by signalling concessions to Russia before formal negotiations over Ukraine have even begun.
David Lammy, the foreign secretary, will head to the Munich Security Conference on Friday to try to reduce tensions in Nato by urging European counterparts to “keep calm”. A senior government source said: “We can’t spin ourselves up like the Europeans; they have got themselves in a flat spin.”
