The rain is still pouring down in southern Kruger National Park, and since yesterday the Vurhami River has surged even higher.
This morning we were offered a way out of the park — a helicopter ride to the other side of the Crocodile River in order to leave. Some visitors decided to go and by the end of the day, only seven of us remained between the two camps.
The atmosphere has changed.
The roads are even quieter.
Despite the relentless rain, there were some very special sightings — two jackals running down the road, a lioness stalking impala with complete focus, a striking Black-bellied Bustard, a Lesser Spotted Eagle, and a Tawny Eagle grooming itself.
The day ended perfectly at Sunset Dam — hippos close by, calm water… and finally, no rain.
Another unforgettable chapter in this wild flood journey.
