In this process, an unnecessary branch created during pruning is carefully transformed into jin, becoming a powerful feature that enhances the character of the tree.
Rather than simply removing the branch, I study its direction, connection to the trunk, and overall balance, shaping it to look as if it had naturally died over many years in harsh conditions. Every cut and carve is done with intention, preserving the natural flow and story of the tree.
By refining the jin, the movement of the trunk becomes more dramatic, and the overall presence of the Shimpaku grows stronger. What was once an unwanted branch becomes an important element that adds age, tension, and beauty.
