Testing out Dimarzio pickups in my Schecter Sun Valley Super Shredder Exotic Black Limba. The DP500 Super Paf Ceramic is a new release by Dimarzio, and it aims to take after the Dimarzio Super Distortion with the exception of the hex pole pieces. According to the website, Super Paf Ceramic has slightly lesser mids and output.
The Paf 36th Anniversary pickup used here is the bridge version DP223, not DP103. I opted for the bridge model so as to match the bridge pickup's output. It is really smooth and has a mid range emphasis. The only downside is that it is rather loud, will need to adjust the pickup height.
After replacing the stock Schecter Sunset Strip bridge pickup, I find that the Super Paf Ceramic is hotter, more saturated, and darker sounding, with the bass being more present. Paired with an Ibanez TS9 tube screamer, I'm glad it doesn't sound too harsh or trebly.
The Paf 36th Anniversary on the other hand is sweet sounding, and good for lead lines and legato given it's output and consistency. When both humbuckers are used in middle position, they give a pleasant and chimey aww sound. I think I would prefer something brighter like the Paf Pro,
Overall, I believe this is a refreshing upgrade that allows myself to dabble with Dimarzio pickups. I have a set of D Activators yet to be installed, currently wanting to explore more medium high output pickups.
