To avoid being judged.
To fit in.

We live in a world where approval is currency—likes, applause, acceptance, followers. But the early church faced something far more serious than being unfollowed. They faced prison, persecution, beatings, and even death.
And yet, they made a declaration that still confronts every believer today:
👉 “We must obey God rather than men.” — Acts 5:29
In Acts 4:8–20 and Acts 5:27–29, Peter and the apostles were commanded by religious and governing authorities to stop speaking in the name of Jesus. This wasn’t a suggestion—it was a direct order backed by power and threat.
But their response changed history.
They refused to be silent because Jesus Christ is risen from the dead and alive today. And no human authority could overrule the command of God.
⚖️ The Biblical Balance: God-Pleasers, Not Rebels
Scripture is clear.
Christians are called to respect authority.

📖 Romans 13:1–2 teaches us that governing authorities are established by God for order, justice, and restraint of evil. As believers, we are called to:
Be good citizens
Respect the law
Live peaceably
Pay taxes
Submit whenever obedience does not require disobedience to God
But Scripture also gives us a clear boundary.
When human authority commands what God forbids or forbids what God commands, believers must obey God first.
That’s not rebellion.
That’s faithful obedience.
📌 Biblical Examples of God-Pleasing Courage
🔹 Daniel (Daniel 6)
He obeyed Babylon’s laws—until the law demanded he stop praying. He didn’t protest loudly. He quietly obeyed God and accepted the consequences.
🔹 The Hebrew Midwives (Exodus 1)
They disobeyed Pharaoh’s command to kill babies because they feared God—and God honoured them.
🔹 The Apostles (Acts 4–5)
They obeyed authorities in daily life, but refused to stop preaching Christ. They accepted imprisonment and suffering without violence or hatred.
Even Paul—who wrote Romans 13—was arrested, beaten, imprisoned, and eventually executed for continuing to preach Jesus.
He practiced what Acts 5:29 preached.
🧠 Three Powerful Truths Every Believer Must Grasp
🔑 Point 1: People-Pleasing Silences Purpose
Trying to please everyone is like standing at a crossroads where every sign points in a different direction—you don’t move at all.
People-pleasing doesn’t just slow obedience. It paralyses it.
🔑 Point 2: God-Pleasing Requires Courage, Not Convenience
After being miraculously released from prison, the apostles were told by an angel to go right back and preach again. Not safe. Not convenient. But obedient.
God’s will is your compass.
People’s opinions are just noise.
🔑 Point 3: God Honours Obedience Over Applause
The apostles rejoiced that they were counted worthy to suffer for His Name.
Man-pleasers seek the stage.
God-pleasers become lighthouses.
❓ The Question Isn’t If Pressure Will Come—But Who You Will Please
Will you obey God when it costs comfort?
Will you speak truth when silence feels safer?
Will you live for eternal approval instead of temporary applause?
Jesus said:
📖 “If anyone would come after Me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me.”
The early church did.
The apostles did.
Now it’s our turn.
Final Prayer:
May it be said of us what was said of them—
👉 They could not be silenced, because they lived to please God, not man.
