This is what joy used to sound like! A minor key medieval Christmas carols, Gaudete reminds us to rejoice because Christ is Born of the Virgin Mary.

that rejoice, rejoice is a command in any key!

My inner medievalist was always fascinated by this song performed by accapella choirs. Melodically, it use the hard syllables of the Latin "Gow-de-te" to create a verbal drumbeat, uniting the sounds and the rhythm. To play it instrumentally on the harp, I leaned into those pulsing, asymmetric rhythms that move between two and three. In between the pulsing chorus, the chant like verses let the melody float over a pad of ringing chords.

But it sounds more complicated than it is to play and my sheet music arrangement is perfect for intermediate harpists looking to add some stand out sounds to their holiday repertoire.

Instead of warm and fuzzy, this is Christmas bright and brilliant. It dances through the darker Cm key with relentless joy. Give me all the minor key magic and ancient energy!
