Bringing home three more rescued Belgian Draft horses and future plans of the Big Hoof Foundation

Two weeks ago we rescued a Belgian Draft horse mare and a gelding from Wish Upon A Horse. They enjoyed their freedom ride home and the beginning of their retirement life. There was something about these two horses and I just couldn't let them ship to slaughter as with all the horses on our farm.

Last week, we rescued another Belgian mare from Bowie Texas Livestock. This mare was in terrible condition and I was told that this mare shipped all the way to Mexico. When she arrived at the slaughter facility she was lying down in the trailer and wouldn't get off. So...they sent her back to Bowie. We did a quick fundraiser for her and saved her life! This video explains what happened with the pick up from Wish Upon A Horse and the rescue of the mare from Bowie Texas Livestock.

We are working on some facility changes too and we are excited to share the details with all of you! We are expanding the back of the barn to give the horses a place to go in hot and cold weather. This will be a large open area to accommodate all the horses and donkeys. We are also adding additional waterers. Everything is explained in this video along with the plans for the future of our foundation and goals for 2025.

We are also working on rescuing 2 Belgian Draft horse geldings and an old Percheron gelding that needs a soft landing. They are scheduled to ship to slaughter on Sunday 11/24/24 from Bowie Texas Livestock! We can definitely use your support to save their lives!

Another way to support us is with feed...the one item WE always need is FEED! If you would like to send a gift/donation of feed (Alfa Pro or beardless wheat) you can send that through our local feed store, HF & C Amarillo. When you call, tell them you are sending a gift to Fletcher Farms Amarillo/Big Hoof Foundation and they will add the gifts to our account.

Alfa-Pro is a complete pelleted alfalfa mixed with vitamins and minerals. Alfa-Pro is $17.45 per bag. They do offer a discount if you purchase by the pallet (40 - 50 pound bags) $16.95 per bag if purchased by the pallet.
We are also feeding round bales of beardless wheat and the horses go through about 2 bales every few days. A round bale of beardless wheat is $140. We also use small square bales of beardless wheat and can be purchased through HF&C Amarillo for $14.95 each.

If you would like to send the horses a gift of alfalfa you can do that through Mauls Feed and Seed. We use Mauls for alfalfa because it is grown locally here in Amarillo and they are priced the best in town.
