Extreme Cold Grips Canada at -35°C as Arctic Air Bringing Century-Breaking Snow to Southern U.S.
Canada is experiencing one of the most significant Arctic outbreaks of the winter season with temperatures plunging to -35°C across the Prairie provinces. Wind chill values have reached a dangerous -50°C in Saskatchewan and Manitoba, where frostbite can occur in under 10 minutes.
The same Arctic air mass is creating a HISTORIC winter storm across the southern United States right now:
❄️ New Orleans: 20cm of snow (8 inches) - heaviest in decades
❄️ Baton Rouge: 19cm - century-old records shattered
❄️ Mobile, Alabama: 19cm - first significant snow in years
🚨 CURRENT CONDITIONS:
Saskatchewan: -36°C (wind chill -50°C)
Manitoba: -28°C (wind chill -36°C)
Alberta: Moderating to -3°C but still dangerous wind chills
Ontario/Quebec: Coldest air arriving Wednesday-Thursday
⚠️ EXTREME COLD WARNINGS remain in effect across Prairie provinces
⚠️ School closures across southern Manitoba
⚠️ Lake effect snow: 5-15cm possible around Georgian Bay
📅 WHAT'S NEXT:
Temperatures moderate by Friday across most of Canada
POTENTIAL major snowstorm for Ontario/Quebec this weekend (Sunday night-Monday)
10-25cm possible for Toronto, Montreal area - STILL DEVELOPING
This event is caused by a significant southward displacement of the polar vortex, allowing Arctic air to spill much farther south than normal across the entire North American continent.
