Описание: Fecal microbiota transplant, taking poop (feces) from one donor and placing it into a recipient (patient with recurrent Clostridioides difficile (C. diff)) has been successfully used for years to help those unfortunate patients who have difficult to control recurrent C. diff infection. This video will teach you if you are likely to benefit from the first ever available capsules of fecal microbiota oral medication. We will review the current indications for this medication, as well as why and when you may benefit from taking this capsule. We will also review the potential risks of oral fecal microbiota capsules. If you have recurrent C. diff infection, it is essential that your clinician has treated the recurrent episode appropriately with a pulse taper of oral vancomycin or fidaxomicin. It is critical for you to remember that recurrent C. diff is defined as recurrent diarrheal infection, not a recurrent positive test. The reason for this is that people can be “colonized” which means that C. diff can be part of their own gut microbiome that lives with them. A positive test does not indicate infection if a patient does NOT have signs of disease. Note that the prior video also discusses that a true C. diff infection requires the presence of clinical disease (diarrhea) and not just a positive test. For example, if you have an episode of C diff and your diarrhea resolves, do not obtain additional testing of stool for C. diff as the bacteria could be living with you and not causing disease.
