A live concert performance by violinist Laurie Mostovoy Sonsino, student of Ivan Galamian at the Curtis Institute of Music in the 1960s--an old audio tape with Concerto Soloists of Philadelphia, Marc Mostovoy, conductor. (Music 11:22)
Although the fidelity of this reel-to-reel tape is problematic, Laurie Mostovoy Sonsino's musicianship shines through. Her understanding of baroque style and ornamentation is evident as she performs this inspired Torelli concerto with deep feeling and flair. Note the impressive continuo support given by cellist, James Holesovsky, and harpsichordist, Temple Painter.
She was accepted at age thirteen to the Curtis Institute of Music, where she received her Artists Diploma in 1968. While studying there, she joined Concerto Soloists of Philadelphia as a founding member, performing with them for over twenty years. She was a featured soloist in more than fifty concerts on the Orchestra's main series in Philadelphia, as well as throughout the U.S. and internationally.
Her principal violin teachers and chamber music coaches included Ivan Galamian, Oscar Shumsky, Paul Makanowitzky, Edgar Ortenberg, Sally Thomas, Helen Kwalwasser, Josef Gingold, Jascha Brodsky, William Kroll and Raphael Hillyer.
