Powerful performance by Danny Kaye in his last feature film. In this scene, the kind, poor Ragpicker is chosen to represent the evil, rich defendants in absentia during this “trial” in the titular character’s basement. Some of the cultural critiques he makes (around 12 to 13 minutes in) are unfortunately still very relevant today.
