michael alan TravelCostaRicaNOW.com and D'Angelo here.mat Mata Palo Beach, its on the pacific side of Costa Rica, and in between Dominical beach and Mauel Antonio beach. We're going to be talking to Trish. this video is kind of specifically for people that are kind of riding the fence about coming down to Costa Rica for whatever reason.Trish is gonna give us some things for you guys to think about, that maybe you might be able to make it down here as well. how did you get to Costa Rica?
it was a really convoluted process, of about a five year. he lived here in Costa Rica. He looked at how hard we were
working in our jobs, you guys have crappy quality of life, you need to think about moving to Costa Rica. what do you meann live a crappy quality of life. it was in the land of eternal sun, we actually realized. We were working 16 hours a day, six seven days a
week, hardly ever a day off, and we really started to evaluate what was important to us. At this stage of our lives, our children were grown, we really didn't have anything holding us back. we didn't even realize how bad our quality of life was. We had no idea really how badly it was affecting our bodies, our minds, our marriage. It wasn't good, and it wasn't worth the dollar that we were making. kind of had your mindset on Costa Rica. Wwhy people look at Panama, and Nicaragua? did consider a lot of other places. looked at Peru, in the end we chose Costa Rica, because... ... in the San Jose area, and then we were able to secure a six-month house-sitting commitment. a lot of people have some serious concerns, so the reason they don't make
the move, they're like I don't know. I mean they have a lot of questions, and they just kind of bog themselves down with analysis paralysis. Did you guys have any concerns about actually jumping in there? we're done with this, and stress, and all that stuff. Did you kind of go wait a minute, let's look at this? How long did you do research, or homework? some things that I
think a lot of people don't think about? was there a money
issue? What am I going to do when I get down there? Extremely concerned about money, and security. What are we going to do when we get down there? How are we going to survive? and my pensions, and my Social Security don't kick in until.... Do we have enough to last? secured a six month house sitting, a lot of people think about the house sitting option. Absolutely the biggest challenge that expats that are established here, or even coordinate citizens of Costa Rica have. When they
own a home here, and they don't occupy a full time, it's not safe for them to be a an established home, with their possessions unsecured. Why would you want to? this had to be secure. did you have something already lined up?
He asked us to please step in and and run his hotel for him here in Mato Palo. After talking with everybody, the people that do their homework, and research, even if it's too much information, and maybe sometimes it's a little clouded, have an understanding of what you might be getting yourself into. Has anything surprised you? I didn't know this was this bad. for anybody that doesn't know the Mato Palo area, we're kind of rustic Costa Rica. The beach is very rustic, there's not a lot of people out here, it's off the beaten path I would say. eight hundred kilometer excuse me eight hundred meters off the highway, but those are 800 very rustic meters, not a lot of services here. Anything surprise you? There was a strong
element of poverty Costa Rica. I didn't expect that there were people literally here living hand-to-mouth scratching out an existence. You should never come to another country, and not give back to that country in some form, or the other.
Whether it's volunteering, whether it's money, whether it's having people working for you.
certified TEFL instructor, free English lessons to local youth. giving back to the community, we employ local people any way that we can, and we would rather be able to make sure that they get paid, rather than to go out to dinner ourselves.
We don't always like to talk about how great it is to live here drinking coffee while to toucans go by and monkeys, so we try
to say some of the you know the realness of it. what are some things that not surprises, but think kind of sucks?
we have a lot of toucans and monkeys yes, but it's not always toucans and monkeys. The biggest challenge here is to
