The folks at MAS sent me a blade to test on tatami. The Samgakdo is a Korean style sword, with a super thin blade made out of L6 in hira-zukuri geometry. This sword is a mat cutter only. It's designed for advanced Jipdan cutting.

First impressions:
The sword is super light and a bit short for me although it is very well balanced.
200 grams lighter, and an inch shorter than the Kuroyuri that I normally cut with, so it took a bit to get used to the weight and speed of the blade, but once I got used to it, the sword cut like a dream. The thickness of the blade tapers from about 5mm at the habaki, to about 3mm at the kissaki.
The sword came wicked sharp, and the fittings were nice and tight. After 2 cutting sessions there was no loosening of the tsuba, tsuka, or habaki.
Overall thoughts after cutting:
The Samgakdo is a surgical instrument not meant for beginners. In the right hands, this sword is designed to take goza apart in ways only dreamed of.
Unfortunately... My skill is not quite up to the task to truly make this sword shine.
Targets: Bugei Wara from Bugei Trading Co.
Tatami omote from Mugen Dachi Co.
Повторяем попытку...
