Itinerary
Cable car ride from Pordoi Pass to Sas Pordoi, Rifugio Maria. From Sas Pordoi, connection trail to Forcella Pordoi (Rifugio Forcella del Pordoi). Trail 627 / AV2 to junction with trail 638 for Piz Boé. Piza de Boà trail 638 to summit of Piz Boé and Rifugio Capanna Fassa. Descent on trail 638 to Rifugio Boé. Trails 647 and 649 to Sas de Mesdì (Easy and short off trail part). Retrace to Rifugio Boè to take trail 627 to Forcella Pordoi and cable car station on Sas Pordoi.

Hike Total: Approx. 9 mi / 14.5 km, 2500 ft / 760 m elevation gain.

Hike Notes:
For my fall trip to the Dolomites I originally intended to spend two days on the Sella Group with a stay at one of the refugios. As refugios were closed for the season the option of camping were limited due to scarcity of water sources on the Sella Massif with the result that the itinerary would need to change in a way I did not particularly liked. I opted for a day hike using the only possible zero day I could have. I knew right away that when stepping foot on the Sella I would have liked to have more time and hike more.
The itinerary I choose was one of the "classic" day hike itinerary on the Sella Group which is taken by hordes of visitors in the summer time: starting with an easy ride to Sas Pordoi with the cable car from passo Pordoi, then a visit to Piz Boè for the must see 360 panorama of the many others surrounding Dolomites groups, then a subsequent hike North across the high plateau towards Rifugio Cavazza al Pisciadù which I did not reach as my turn around point was the Sas de Mesdì, another spectacular vintage point. The Sella group offers plenty of beautiful hiking, constant spectacular views (the Massif is centrally located in the Western Dolomites so the views of other iconic mountains are endless) and also some challenging via ferrata and beautiful remote trails. Definitely a mountain group of the Dolomites I want to explore more.
