Context: 

Having witnessed the ordeal between the twins, Tai was placed in a dilemma: to approach Yuri about the whole thing or go about his way.

Seeing the girl in distress made him naturally worry, but the paranoia inside told him that Yuri already knew the truth about him and would resent him, making him afraid to lose the last person that had good faith in him.

(...But what good is that if he's outright lying to her...?)
(What if she does know?)

These constant thoughts were bickering from both sides of his crooked mind, tugging a war back and forth.
In the end, he couldn't bring himself to do anything that would suffice a way out of this other than walking away from the issue like a coward.

Back at his cottage he pondered about (???) approaching his place the other night.
Was their proposition really authentic?
Can Tai really trust them?
Aitsu, Zin, Yukara, Ketsu and Maiko... everybody that has fallen up until this point cannot stay in vain.
The thought of letting their deaths be meaningless tortured him, knowing he'd failed those that relied in his guidance.
Tai knew that he had to see this done. 
Etsuo must've been the one to kill the detective.
He must be the traitor.
He must be.
