Welcome to Episode 2 of my Arunachal Pradesh Travel Series!
In this video, we begin our Day 2 journey from Bhalukpong to Bomdila, one of the most scenic and culturally rich stretches of the Tawang Circuit. After a peaceful morning in Bhalukpong, we start exploring several beautiful and meaningful stops along the way — waterfalls, temples, tunnels, hanging bridges, war memorials, and finally the stunning Bomdila Buddhist Monastery.
If you are planning a Tawang trip, Bhalukpong to Bomdila is an important travel day. This vlog will give you a complete idea of the route, distance, weather, places to visit, road conditions, ILP requirements, and real-time experience of this mountain journey.
🚙 DAY 2 ROUTE: Bhalukpong → Tipi → Durga Mandir → Waterfall → Nechiphu Tunnel → Jamiri → Tenga Valley → Bomdila
📍 Bhalukpong
We begin the day in Bhalukpong, the entry point into Arunachal Pradesh. This border town lies between Assam and Arunachal, and serves as the gateway for the entire Tawang circuit.
📍 Tipi Orchid Research Centre
Just 5–6 km from Bhalukpong, this is one of the best short stops on the route. The glasshouse Orchidarium houses more than 500 species of orchids including rare varieties found only in the Eastern Himalayas. The peaceful ambience and the flow of the Kameng River beside the centre make it a perfect place to start your journey.
📍 Durga Mandir
A small and peaceful temple along the roadside. Many travellers stop here to take blessings before entering the steep mountain roads ahead.
📍 Roadside Waterfall
A refreshing natural waterfall on the left side of the road, where travellers often take a short break.
📍 Nechiphu Tunnel (500m, opened in 2023)
An all-weather tunnel built to avoid landslide-prone stretches on the old Tawang road. This engineering marvel makes the journey smoother, safer, and faster.
📍 Jamiri Hanging Bridge
A beautiful traditional hanging bridge over the Tenga River. Slightly thrilling and very scenic — a must-stop for photos and river views.
📍 Naga Devta Mandir
A locally revered temple where drivers often stop for safe journey prayers before proceeding deeper into the mountains.
📍 Tenga Valley – Ball of Fire War Memorial
A memorial built in honour of the brave Indian soldiers who fought in the 1962 Indo-China war. The area includes tanks, memorial stones, and a museum dedicated to the heroic “Ball of Fire” regiment.
📍 Bomdila Buddhist Monastery (est. 1965)
One of Arunachal’s most beautiful monasteries, modelled after Tsona Gontse Monastery in Tibet. The peaceful prayer halls, colourful murals, and the view of Bomdila from the monastery make it a serene end to the day.
📍 Local Market & Lunch
Fresh organic rajma, chillies, and typical mountain supplies can be found here.
After lunch, we continue towards Dirang, which begins in the next episode.
