Mike Ashey presents his second video on his “kits of yesteryear” series and discusses the Renwal 1/200 scale and the Revell 1/260 scale ballistic missile submarine full interior kits. Mike discusses the original kits, including some kit history and the reissue versions. There are also close ups of the Renwal and Revell kit parts and Mike also provides some tips on construction.
These kits came out in the early 1960’s and featured complete interiors. The Renwal kits were issued first, followed by the Revell kits. Both companies worked hard to make their kits as accurate as possible and to the surprise of many 1960’s defense experts they did a pretty good job, especially on the hull shapes, the deck levels and the interior spaces. While the Renwal kits were larger and the Thomas Jefferson kit had a clear side, the Revell kits had colored plastic and an extensive decal sheet.
