The game begins in the Scotch Game (Mieses Variation). Very early on, Black’s two queenside pieces are completely sidelined, never finding active squares.
Because there is no real counterplay, I’m able to shift all my attention to the kingside and start building pressure with full control. The position slowly turns into a dark-square stranglehold, with Black’s king locked in the corner and no escape squares.
Despite the fatigue at the end of the night, the win comes from patience and technique — improving every piece and walking my king all the way up the board to convert the endgame cleanly.
A good example of how to win games late in a 24-hour marathon: limit counterplay, trust your structure, and let the position collapse.
