A new policy at Indianapolis Public Schools is focused on student access, safety and privacy.
The measure was approved Wednesday and follows a lawsuit that claimed the school district unlawfully impeded federal immigration enforcement.
"Order matters. Predictability matters. When expectations are clear and consistently applied, schools are safer and learning is stronger," said IPS board president Hope Duke Star.
Board members say the newly passed policy is meant to bring clarity and reinforces equal access to public education for all students in the district, regardless of race, religion, disability or immigration status.
