Описание: The Shmoo is a fictional cartoon creature created by Al Capp (1909–1979); the character first appeared in the satirical American comic strip “Li’l Abner” on August 31, 1948. “Li’l Abner” featured a fictional clan of hillbillies living in the impoverished fictional mountain village of Dogpatch, USA.

Li’l Abner Yokum is portrayed as a simple-minded, gullible, and sweet-natured country bumpkin. He is 6 feet 3 inches (1.91 m) tall and perpetually 19 years old. He lives in a ramshackle log cabin with his parents.

Ole Man Mose is reportedly hundreds of years old, and lives like a hermit in a cave atop a mountain, refusing to “kick the bucket,” which is positioned just outside his cave door. The mysterious Mose describes the Shmoos as follows:
“Shmoos, mah boy – is th’ greatest menace to hoomanity th’ world has ever known!! It’s because they’re so good!!
“Why, thar’s more shmoos in th’ world than anything!!
“They’ve existed here, in “the valley of the shmoo,” since th’ dawn of time!!
“They lays aigs at th’ slightest excuse!! They also gives milk!! And, as fo’ meat, broiled they makes th’ finest steaks.
“Fried – they come out th’ yummiest chicken, an’ all white meat, mind yo’!!
“And as fo’ upkeep, there is none. They don’t eat anything!!
“Go ahead an’ broil him!! When yo’ looks at a shmoo as though yo’d like t’ eat him – he dies of sheer happiness!!
“There’s no waste!! The hide makes the finest leather – or cloth, depending on how thick you slice it! The eyes makes wondaful suspender buttons – and, there are absolutely no bones!! Th’ whiskers makes excellent toothpicks!!"
