In March and April of 2021, Robert Dollar #3 pulled the 2021 steam spring excursions at the Niles Canyon Railway. The #3 hasn’t been seen for several years after the locomotive was pulled off from service in 2016 for a full 1472 day rebuild. During the rebuild, Rizzoli Locomotive Works built a new whistle for the locomotive which is actually #3’s original ALCO 5 Chime. The whistle is dedicated to Henry Luna, the first president of the Pacific Locomotive Association and his passing in 2018. After performing test runs and excursion trials in 2019, #3’s rebuild was complete. Here is #3 at its best, working up the grades, performing its sharp exhaust chuffs and sounding its awesome whistle as it echoes in the canyon walls. Enjoy:)
