Описание: Authorship of this beloved hymn is unknown. It is believed to have derived from an African American songwriter during the 19th century. The first known printing came in 1925 in The Journal of American Folklore. It included "spirituals," African American folk tales and proverbs. The collection was amased by students at the Penn School on Saint Helena Island, South Carolina: https://www.umcdiscipleship.org/resou... . I was delighted to learn it as a child in the Lutheran Church, and it still resonates with me today.
