A few days ago I nipped across the border into West Sussex for a fantastic winter walk at a few places I know.
The south downs along that stretch is a beautiful part of the world, so I decided to compile a film of my wonderful walk around this special county.
I began at RSPB Pulborough Brooks nature reserve. This wetland valley is a perfect sink in winter to cope with all the excess water, which in turn attracts a myriad of birdlife.
Then I headed a short distance south west to Amberley Brooks. Another immense floodplain that not only attracts wildfowl but many different raptor species too.
I was hoping to see the White Tailed Eagles that have taken up residence nearby and bred successfully.
My final destination was to the south and the Selsey peninsular on the coast. Pagham in particular.
Last year it was the place where we discovered the rare Long Eared Owls roosting. No Owls this time, but another chance encounter made me count my blessings. I'll never say I'm unlucky again, that place has certainly been a lucky charm for me.
Apart from incredible individual moments, it's always a pleasure to walk in West Sussex for a day. A stunning county.
