WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF A PARDON IN NEVADA?

A pardon is a government-issued forgiveness of a crime committed in Nevada. A pardon does not erase a criminal conviction--only a record seal does that. But a pardon does help you restore your civil rights and right to possess a firearm. In short, a pardon forgives but does not forget.

The benefits of having a pardon in Nevada for a past criminal conviction include all the following:

1) It can remove all legal disabilities resulting from a criminal conviction.
2) It can restore gun rights.
3) It precludes a prior conviction from being used to impeach you if you testify in a criminal case.
4) You can add it to job applications, and it may cause the employer to overlook your criminal conviction.
5) If you are not a citizen and are having immigration issues, a pardon will likely prevent you from being deported or denied naturalization.
6) It can restore your right to vote, hold office, and serve on a jury.

Note that a pardon does NOT do any of the following in Nevada:

1) It does not overturn, seal, or expunge a judgment of conviction (only a record seal can do that).
2) It does not relieve the duty of a convicted sex offender to register.
3) It does not guarantee that an employer will hire you if you have a criminal record.
