Описание: Tesla has officially submitted an expanded application for construction permits in order to build more facilities in Grünheide south of Berlin. The most notable addition will be a battery cell factory.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Climate Protection (MLUK) of the State of Brandenburg, announced on June 3 that Tesla has revised its application for construction permits at the Giga Berlin production facility. According to the ministry, Tesla wants to add a battery production facility there. Tesla has been planning to build a major battery manufacturing facility in the vicinity of its Giga Berlin for quite some time now. Since the very first announcement of the plans for Giga Berlin proper (back in 2019), the facility has been thought of as Tesla’s Europe operations hub. In July 2021, Tesla intends to start Model Y production at its Gigafactory Berlin with the vehicles made there being exported across the European continent to meet a growing demand for Tesla EVs. Tesla electric vehicles are popular in several countries in Europe, including Germany, France and Norway. As the demand for Tesla EVs continues to surge, the EV maker needs to continue expanding its battery production operation. In its press release, the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Climate Protection (MLUK) of the State of Brandenburg talked about the company installing a “corresponding auxiliary device for vehicle production.” According to the agency, the planned battery production facility could have an estimated manufacturing capacity of 100 gigawatt-hours per year, however the capacity could be increased to between 200 and 250 gigawatt hours per year. The automaker is expected to produce 46-80 lithium-ion cells at this new facility. The new, in-house developed 4680-type cylindrical cell was unveiled at the Battery Day last September and is expected to give Tesla cars an extended range, more power, and performance than the previously used 21-70-type cylindrical cells. Tesla has been aware that the 4680 lines in Berlin will not take care of the initial production phases at the factory. Instead, it will rely on suppliers and its Kato Road 4680 lines in the United States to take care of the first months of production at Giga Berlin.
