Three years ago, an abandoned newborn elephant was rescued in southwestern China’s Yunnan Province by the Asian Elephant Breeding and Rescue Center. Since then, its caretakers have celebrated its birthday on August 12, which is also the World Elephant Day. Rare and heavily hunted, Asian elephants are mainly found in Southeast Asia and South Asia. China’s Yunnan Province is home to about 300 Asian elephants.
