The Duchess Mine Trail aka The "Bomb" Trail With Nice Wildflowers on a Peaceful Hike Up a Big Hill

Описание: Welcome to the Duchess Mine Trail.

So you've made your way to Calaveras County and in particular to Vallecito, CA. There's quite a bit to do here so buckle up. In future videos I can explore the water caves of Upper Natural Bridges Trail and perhaps even the Moaning Caverns, but for today we are doing the Duchess Mine Trail, aka The "Bomb" Trail. It gets that secondary name from a metal contraption on it's table-like top which resembles a bomb to some.

This trail is a loop and can be done either clockwise or counterclockwise but either way is fine. If done clockwise, which seems to be the most popular for some reason, you immediately begin ascending the front and very steep face of the hill up a thousand feet. The advantages of this approach is that you'll send it much more quickly. The disadvantage is that you're climbing straight up a hill mere minutes after stepping out of your car. For me personally, I go counterclockwise and enjoy a nice gradual ascent up the backside of the hill saving the steeper section for my return.

Once on top you'll find quite a large flat area looking more like a meadow of wildflowers than a hilltop, but nevertheless, atop a hill you are. The way up includes old rusted out cars along the hillside and the afore mentioned "Bomb" on top. With clear skies you can see hills far into the distance making this hike worth it just for the views.
