Maren Makes It.... to the Santa Fe Farmer's Market. 

Today I take you to the Santa Fe Saturday Farmer's Market which includes an Artists Market and also a food portion. Parts of this market are year round while others are seasonal. I'll be on the hunt for my favorite breakfast burrito (Whoo's Donuts) from when I used to live here. I will also be testing out some coffee for you from local coffee shop Cafe Fresh. Plus I'll show you some  quintessence New Mexico things that you can try while you're here. 

I'll also introduce you to the tradition of Chile. Trust me you'll want to understand this before you visit so that you kmow what you're ordering at local restaurants. Chile in New Mexico refers to Hatch Chile Peppers, which are turned into a salsa or sauce. Now comes the big question: GREEN or RED or CHRISTMAS?? what's the difference? Green chili peppers are most commonly roasted and then turned into a sauce. Red chili is most commonly hung up to dry and then turned into a powder and then into a sauce. Now here's the wild part -- both are from the same plant!! If don't pick the chiles when they are green, they will eventually continue to ripen and turn red. 

On the way we will walk on a portion of the Historic Trail which is part of the El Camino Real National Historic Trail. I'll also show you the local train system called the Rail Runner and discuss some of the pros and cons of taking the train, both from the perspective of a resident and also of a visitor or traveler. 

On my walk, I will show you some traditional architecture in Santa Fe. This style of building is called many names including Adobe, Stucco, Pueblo Revival, or Santa Fe Style. This style is inspired by the traditional building style of the Native America communities of this region, which were built with mud bricks (adobe) that was then covered in mud plaster. STUCCO is the modern equivalent of this mud plaster and is made out of a cement and lime mixture. PUEBLO means "town" or "village". Pueblos were traditionally built out of ADOBE. So you can see how all these terms are related.
