Thaxted is a small country town with a recorded history which dates back to before the Domesday Book.The town is home to a combination of historic buildings and scenic countryside, making this small town is one of the highlights of exploring East Anglia. The town got its name from being a place where thatching materials were sourced! Thaxted is a small country town with a recorded history which dates back to before the Domesday Book. By the late 14th century, Thaxted was at the centre of the local cutlery trade. It is thought that the Guild of Cutlers contributed to the cost of building the Thaxted Guildhall, which the listed building details prepared in 1967 suggests, was completed between 1390 and 1410.
