On April 5, 1614, Pocahontas and John Rolfe were united in marriage with the blessing of Chief Powhatan and the governor of Virginia. Their union helped to establish peace between the English colonists and the Powhatan tribe. Their first child, Thomas, was born in 1615, and in 1616, the couple set sail for England.
