Comparison of four different putter balance techniques: toe hang, face balanced, lie angle balanced and center of mass balanced.
At 4:30 I mention that center of mass balance was patented by Ping (i.e. Karsten Solheim) in 1962. I have since found even earlier patents. There is one from 1929 that very clearly claims center of mass balance, and one from 1907 that mentions it in a roundabout way. So the idea is not just old, it is really old.
