Friedrich Nietzsche can be called the "godfather of modern environmentalism" whose monumental work, "Thus Spoke Zarathustra" emanates out of Nietzsche’s passionate belief that humanity’s final freedom will come when we realize we are animals and the Earth is our Mother. Zarathustra comes from the mountains, speaks with the eagles, lions and birds, converses with the trees, and takes refuge in caves. He speaks to us today from the depths of who we most essentially are—children of Earth. Only in this spirit will we evolve into what Nietzsche called the Ubermensch—the Superhuman. Otherwise we will end up as what he called the Last Man—the couch potato!
