The Box Tree Moth has arrived in Ontario and it’s hungry! 🐛 Have your Boxwoods been looking a little worse for wear lately? You’re not alone. These tiny green caterpillars can quickly strip a Boxwood of its leaves and bark, but the good news is: you can fight back!
Here’s how to treat for Box Tree Moth:
✔️ Inspect regularly! Look for chewed leaves, silk webbing, and caterpillars with green bodies and black heads.
✔️ Spray with BTK! It’s a natural bacteria that targets caterpillars but is safe for people, pets, and pollinators. For mixing and application instructions please follow directions on product packaging
✔️ Make sure you spray deep into the foliage and are reaching past the top layer for the best results!
✔️ Prune damaged areas to encourage regrowth and remove hidden eggs.
Staying ahead of this pest is key, but if your Boxwood is too far gone, we have some great alternatives that will give you a similar look to your Boxwoods that the moths have no interest in.
You can find out more information about identifying and treating the Box Tree Moth in our garden guide below. And as always, if you have any questions or concerns come chat with our Daymakers in the greenhouse or shoot us a message!
