Fifty-eight Home Affairs officials have been fired following a sweeping Special Investigating Unit probe into a vast immigration fraud scheme.


The SIU says South Africa was effectively “sold one permit at a time” after uncovering that officials turned immigration services into profit-making schemes. The investigation found that more than R16 million was generated through fraudulent permits, visas and citizenship documents, while foreign nationals who gained illegal entry allegedly made over R181 million.


Disciplinary processes are underway, 275 criminal referrals have been made to the NPA, and the investigation continues.

Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has announced interventions aimed at tackling Johannesburg’s worsening water crisis.


During his State of the Province Address, Lesufi acknowledged persistent long-term water supply problems affecting communities including Coronationville and Westbury. Critics argue that delivery timelines remain vague.

In a major legal setback for Trump, the US Supreme Court has ruled that he exceeded his authority in imposing controversial reciprocal tariffs; including tariffs affecting South African goods. Six of nine justices agreed the law used did not authorise such sweeping trade measures. The ruling could have implications for South Africa, whose exports were hit with 30 percent tariffs.
