RTÉ News reports on the death of renowned Irish traditional singer Seán Ó Sé.
A native of Ballylickey in West Cork, Ó Sé came to prominence in the 1960s with Séan Ó Riada's group Ceoltóirí Chualann and became affectionately known as "The Pucker", or "An Pocar", a play on the comic song 'An Poc Ar Buile', which he made famous in an unforgettable 1962 recording. Ó Sé later toured internationally with Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, visiting Canada, the United States, Moscow, Shanghai and Havana, and also contributed to many radio and television programmes. A late career highlight for Ó Sé came in 2004, when, at the age of 68, he sang a verse in Irish on the novelty record "The Langer" by Tim O'Riordan and Natural Gas, which spent four weeks at number-one in the Irish charts.
Still performing in his late 80s, Ó Sé passed away after a short illness on 13th January 2026, just three days before he would have celebrated his 90th birthday.
