On June 18, 2023, at 9:30 am, five individuals boarded a submersible called Titan and embarked on an adventurous journey into the depths of the sea. Their destination was the wreckage of the Titanic, the iconic ship that sank nearly a century ago. This extreme form of adventure tourism comes with a hefty price tag, with each person spending over ₹20 million just for a few hours of this exclusive tour. The high cost is justified by the fact that the Titanic wreck lies at a depth of 3,810 meters below the sea surface, requiring advanced equipment and expertise to reach.

The Titan submersible, operated by the company OceanGate, began its descent into the water. It takes approximately two hours to reach the intended depth. At 15-minute intervals, the submersible sends signals to its support ship, the Polar Prince, which serves as the sole communication channel with the outside world. However, on that fateful day, after only one hour and 45 minutes of diving, the submersible abruptly lost contact with the support ship at 11:15 am. As the scheduled return time of 4:30 pm came and went without any sign of the submersible, the team aboard the Polar Prince grew increasingly concerned. By 7:10 pm, they made the decision to inform the US Coast Guard, initiating a multinational search and rescue operation that would last for four days. Everyone had only one question in their mind. What happened to these passengers?
