About the film:
Changing the Face of Medicine: Black Women in Medicine is a groundbreaking multimedia documentary project and educational initiative that celebrates the history, status and future of women of color in medicine. Audiences interact with compelling video footage, photography and educational programming cultivated through the lens of producer and director, Crystal Emery. Changing the Face of Medicine tells the stories of Black women doctors by following their journeys from inequality to excellence. By introducing their stories to the greater medical community and our society at large, Changing the Face of Medicine acts as an agent of social change and inspires a new generation of doctors of all races and genders. Comprised of a documentary film, a book of biographical photo-essays, and a National Educational Initiative, Changing the Face of Medicine brings a crucial message to a diverse audience. Built from the achievements, intelligence, and grace of over 100 Black women doctors, the project has been described by Filmmaker Bill Duke as an “educational and artistic tour de force.”
