In today tutorial, we are going to talk about the first chart that will include in the dashboard. The chart is created through the pivot table. To create the chart there should also be a pivot chart for this. For the data, there is a way we can a pivot chart.
Create Pivot Table and Chart Area in a worksheet
• First it is needed to create a table by selecting all the ranges then click “Insert Table”
• Then activate any cell in the excel table and go to the Insert button where “Insert Pivot Chart” is added.
• Then both pivot table area and the pivot chart area appeared.
HOW ARE WE CONSTRUCTED ONE CHART?
Looking though the table columns, we have the following columns such as:
• Category which has Men and women
• Products which include four products
• Month which include dates
• Stock where is the total quantities having
• Purchase which is the number of purchases from the total stock
• Price of products
• And the total revenue.
From which we do want to know, how much the stock and how much the purchase done for each month.
CREATE A NEW WORKSHEET
Having known how to construct one chart, it is needed to create a new chart for simplicity and rename it.
• Click the positive sign near the current worksheet
• Right click the new sheet and rename it to the desired names
PLACE DATA COLUMNS FOR PIVOT TABLE AND CHART
• Since the stocks and the purchases are the numeric values, they should be placed in “Values” section
• Month is placed on the “Axis” or ROWS section.
• Then the column chart will appear
FORMAT DATE IN FOR A PIVOT CHART OR TABLE
If the date is not in an appropriate way, they can be adjusted as follows:
• Right click the Date column from the pivot table
• Navigate to the “FORMAT CELLS”
• Format dialog box opens in which choose the one which says date
• Then choose the desire one
HIDE ALL BOXES FROM THE CHART
• Inside the chart, right click one fills then click to “Hide All Fills”
• Then the chart is clear and good looking.
IMPROVE CHART VISUALIZATION
The chart visualization can be improved by changing the chart details. These can be performed as follows.
• Click the big positive sign appears at the outside top right corner of the chart
• Navigate to the Axes then remained checked only for “Primary Horizontal”
• Remove grid lines
• Place legend bottom
• For the data labels, click each bar then navigate to the data labels and place the label each where you want. Besides, you can change the font size or the bold of font.
CHANGE CHART TYPE
After changing all details from the pivot chart, we can change the chart in much more presentable way by changing the chart type as follows:
• Active cell inside the pivot chart
• Navigate to the “Design” tab then go to the “Change Chart Type”
• In the last tab, choose “Combo”
• Select both types in Cluster bars
• And uncheck to the secondary axis
• OK
• Now the chart will change to the clustered horizontal bars
CHANGE CHART STYLES
The style of the pivot chart can be changed by using “Format Data Series” as the followings:
• Double click the bar then go to the FILL settings where we can change the colors of both bars by hitting the fill color we want
• Within the bar section, go to the SEREIS settings where we can overlap the bars and increase width height.
ADD SHADOW TO THE CHART
After the chart completes, go to the 3D settings then “add shadow” then the chart is becoming more presentable.
